Kimono Dreaming......

mummy and her pin up babes.
I had this fabulous Kimono, op shopped for maybe $4 years ago, and finally transformed it into something I can wear and show off.  Basically the sleeves of the kimono I used as the halter part of the dress and the robe part is the body.  The straightness of the dress doesn't allow my big rushing mummy strides, more like iddy bitty Keisha strides, but that's kinda nice and in keeping with the original use of the dress.  I need to fix the bodice so it does not gape, until then I will wear a bikini top under to keep the girls in their rightful place.  Any tips on how to fix the top would be appreciated.

All the Wild Horses

I found this super cute printed cotton jersey at the local fabric shop for only $4 a meter and couldn't leave without buying some, even though I didn't know what I was going to make.  I'm not overly confident sewing with stretch fabrics and got a few tips from the lovely ladies at my local shop.
When I got home, I went through my hundred of patterns looking for a dress to make.  I found Simplicity 8264 a 1978 Jiffy pattern, and it was.  Thanks to the previous owner, Jeanette, the pattern even came with an extra short sleeve piece already made.  I love my new dress it is easy to wash and wear, no ironing needed, excellent for a busy mummy.

2 little ducks went out one day......

Who doesn't love a toddler in a romper?  I made Ginger and her little friend, rompers from Simplicity 6418 from 1974, in opposite fabrics.  It was very easy to make and is cute and  more practical for a 2 year old with a couple of pockets added.  I'm thinking I might make them into a short romper as the weather warms up.

Zombilly Doll

Eeek.  I did a photo shoot with Zombilly Dolls, on the other side of the lens, for a bit of fun and these are the shots they sent.

Cupcakes make me want to twirl.

STELLA JEAN
This is Stella, my first born and my muse.  Whenever there is a dress to be tried on or a photo to be taken or a face to be painted, she is always there, working the camera, the dress, the character I have given her.  She is a living doll, full of sass and comedic timing.  She will probably rule the world one day or at least a large assembly of people.

Stella is wearing a labor of love..... It took much unpicking and hours of patience to get the fitted top and the full skirt.  It has paid off, this is one darn cute party frock.  I combined a 50's full skirt dress  (pictured) with a late 60's halter dress for the top (currently on loan to a friend).  The belt is taken from a vintage dress that I have cut up to over the years to use the sparkly pink fabric, and the tulle was added, coz we both love Grease!  And doesn't Stella work that tulle.

Nurse Nancy

For anyone who loves Golden Books, you will know and love Nurse Nancy, as my first baby girl, Stella did and still does, and as Ginger does too.  I never did get round to making Stella a Nurse Nancy Apron, but I did this weekend for Gi Gi.  It is way too adorable, with little bloomers underneath.  I just free styled this little number, if I were to make it again, I would know how to make it perfect!  But for now it is.

SPRING is SPRUNG

For the first day of spring.....I love this poppy fabric and have had it sitting around all winter.  I also love the deep pockets  (for storing treasure) and the full skirt (for hiding a festive belly).  All in all, this pattern is a gem.
