Frock No. 7

Back to school and back to being super organized.  Well I try anyhow.

This dress I made a bout 4 years ago, from Style 1130, view 2.  It's a little big in the bodice; I have trouble with alot of dresses that the bust is too big, especially across the shoulders.  It is something I have to learn to fix, before I add the zip and it changes shape.  I love the bird fabric, if you look closely you will see it has stripes as well.  Two of my fave prints.

On another note, I received my pound of buttons today from Tasia, from the Sewaholic Blog and they are lovely.  Ginny and I just spent some time playing with them all.  I also received my pattern from the Long and Winding Bobbin.  I'm on a frock thing at the moment, but I'm super excited about this pattern and the endless possibilities of button choices.  I do love winning things, and all because I like to read blogs.  It's win win!

Frock No 6.

Oops.  I'm a day late posting this as I was knackered after a huge a Saturday of eating and swimming.

This is one of my fave dresses of all time.  A t-shirt fabric and a simple yet flattering style.  I bought it from my all time favourite op shop for only 50c.  She is on her last legs, so I have to self draft myself a pattern and recreate it.  I love the hand printed gold leaves.  This is the dress that has inspired me to combine my love of sewing and screen printing.

The wood fire oven had a full workout on Saturday.  Pizza for lunch (which I couldn't eat because I'm on a grain free diet), char grilled chicken kebabs and roast pork and salads made from roast veges for dinner.  I'm afraid I didn't get too many pictures as I was terribly busy.

Frock No. 5

I love horizontal stripes.  This dress was purchased last summer.  It's a t-shirt fabric and I love the way it just falls to the ground.  It has a little elasticized gather under the breasts for shape. 
It's another hot hot day here and pretty soon I will be in my kini in the pool.  The wood fire oven is blaring and we have about 20 people coming around soon, with equal amounts of adults and kids.  It's going to be mad.

On another note.  Alby started Prep this year and the poor darling is struggling with all the drawing he has to do.  To encourage him at home the white board came out and he has really shone.  Here he is with an awesome picture he drew of himself riding a bike past a tree.  Adorable.  Oh yeah, stacks of girls in his class think he's gorgeous, don't we all though. Sigh!

Frock No. 4

Blimey it's hot.  A quick post as we're about to jump in the pool.

This is Simplicity 7332 from 1976.  I came with instructions on how to match up the patterns.  It is so light and airy this style, and I love the print of this fabric, a little Mexican.

Frock No. 3

Day 3 of frock wearing and loving it.  It's so hot here in Brisbane and occasionally a breeze will sneak under my skirt and cool me down.  I was tempted to carry a fan and cool myself that way as (I think) the print on Frock 3 is little fans.  But refrained.

I made this number about 4 years ago, and it was the first dress I had made for my self since er, maybe 8 years earlier.  It's a Style pattern 1130 from 1976.  I made view 3, but omitted the buttons and pockets.  The bust was way too big and I experiment twisting, pleating and gathering until I achieved this look, which kinda Va Va vooms the bust.

Ginger was a model today for a gal pal who makes girls clothes in the most adorable printed fabrics.  I will have to post pics when I get them as she was total bomb.  A little shy at first, but ended up nailing it.  Anyhoo, the clothes are by kaizakids, check them out when you have a chance.

Frock No. 2

Hey there, today I wore  a frock that I (finally) finished last week.  T'was  a labour of love. Many hours of unpicking and trying on and re-sewing on this little number.  I love the end result though, my apple dress; so comfortable.  I tried in vain to make her a halter neck dress but gravity isn't doing moi any favours.  Instead, I took thre full gathered skirt and put my spring dress  bodice on it; lowered the back and wa lah, love at first wear.
Today though, I have a lump in my throat for my fellow Queenslanders about to encounter a catergory 5 cyclone up north.  Oh man, I so do not envy them.

Frock No. 1

Today is the first day of February and I have chosen to wear my pink apple frock.  Ginger has tiny twister gymnastics this morning, so I needed something comfy and cool.

This lil' number I made when I found out I was pregnant when Ginger, so it is a little large on the bust but fabulously large round the belly on such a hot and sticky day.  And it has fabulously big pockets for keys and mini flip flops.  It is made from the Style pattern 1543 from 1976.  It was really easy to make and at the time and easy to fit, as it's just the bust that needs to fit.

Yesterday I made Stella new curtains for her room in the hopes of making her room darker in the bright bright summer morning.  They light still comes in, but it's better for now, until I attach some dark lining.
